Philanthropy

Mouhamad’s strong sense of his duty to give back to the country of his birth led him to found Foundation MRD in 2022. It empowers communities in Senegal through expanding access to healthcare, education, and social welfare and has so far helped hundreds of people across the country.

Guided by compassion and a commitment to equity, the foundation delivers practical, lasting change: building clinics where care was once out of reach, supporting schools that open doors to opportunity, and standing beside families in times of need.

Medical Assistance for Conjoined Twins

Mouhamad learned of a case conjoined twins whose parents faced social stigma and isolation in their community via Facebook.

Compelled to help them, Mouhamad provided the family with a new home more suitable to the twins’ needs and his sister became their carer. He also organised for the twins to receive a medical assessment which indicated that without surgery, they would not live.

Mouhamad ultimately funded their life saving surgery in Italy at a cost of €3 million, insisting on helping regardless of the cost.

Advancing Cancer Detection in Senegal

Foundation MRD funded the launch of a groundbreaking biopsy technique in breast cancer treatment at the Hôpital Militaire de Oukam, representing a medical first for West Africa.

With funding of €125,000, the Foundation enabled the introduction of sentinel lymph node biopsies using immunofluorescence, a precise method that makes cancer cells light up in the first lymph node cancer will reach. This allows doctors to detect and treat cancer earlier, with far less invasive procedures than traditional biopsies.

The equipment will last for at least ten years, benefiting at least 500 patients annually, while reducing complications, improving survival rates, and significantly enhancing quality of life.
