Mouhamad Dieng Calls for Greater Certainty for Investors at UN General Assembly Side Event

Mouhamad Rassoul Dieng called on African governments to create a more stable and predictable business environment during the AGII Industrial Demand Forum in New York on 23 September 2026, held on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

Organised by the Africa Green Industrialisation Initiative (AGII), in partnership with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat and the African Union, the forum explored how to build markets for Africa’s next generation of renewable-powered industries.

Drawing on his experience as founder and CEO of MIR Holding, Mr Dieng highlighted the importance of consistent taxation, tariffs, customs procedures and regulation, alongside fair and predictable application of the rule of law.

“Without certainty or confidence, investors will not come,” he said.

He pointed to his logistics company, On Track, whose shipments can face unexplained border delays of three to five days, illustrating how uncertainty undermines business competitiveness and investor confidence.

Africa’s green industrial development offers an opportunity to create jobs, strengthen regional trade and retain more value on the continent. Realising that potential will require governments and businesses to work together to build competitive industries and a predictable environment that will deliver lasting benefits to African economies and communities.
